Theatre Športniki (CZ) with the production GAGARIN!

Theatre ŠPORTNIKI was founded in January 2011 in Maribor. The company is made up of the best sportsmen among puppeteers and the best puppeteers among sportsmen. They follow the rule that “Sport is theatre and theatre is sport“. They moreover got their own way in Slovenia, where the government put culture under the Department of Sport.

The company is made up of graduates from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Electrotechnical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana. Their first show, BACK TO BULLERBYN, was awarded the Best puppet show of the year at the festival Přelet nad loutkářským hnízdem and at the Skupa's Pilsen festival. Their second show is called GAGARIN! and since they use a lot of live music on the stage, they established also a band called “Jahodové děti”.

BACK TO BULLERBYN

Following suggestions for a puppet show based on the less well-known novel by Astrid Lindgren "Children from Bullerbyn" a performance that would like to express a little Slovenian-Czech gratitude to the Swedes was created. BACK TO BULLERBYN asks what to do with an idyllic childhood when a person grows up. Would children from Bullerbyn succeed in preserving magic? Or did magic even exist...? Suitable for children since the age of 12.

GAGARIN!

The production describes the life and work of Jurij Alexejevič Gagarin, the first man in space. Puppets, songs, dances. And newsreels... "Of course, many people will later overcome Gagarin. But nobody would smile after the flight on mankind and the universe as Jura Gagarin did. And it is very important, much more important than you can imagine..." Suitable for children since the age of 12.
