IVAN GONTKO (SK) and his magical barrel-organ

Tyjátr is a project of Ivan Gontko, an actor, dramaturg and organizer of cultural events, since 1986 a member of Puppet Theatre ensemble, nowadays Karol Spišák´s Old Theatre in Nitra and founding member of Teatro Tatro theatre. His aim, since its beginning in 2010, is to restore tradition of nomadic puppeteers and comedians to the presence. Within the project of a family puppet theatre he presents a play ”Hercules or Conquering a Hell” based on a play by folk puppeteer Anton Anderle, written and edited by Juraj Hamar. It also includes a revival of ancient barrel-organ, an instrument which, after the World War II., almost disappeared from public spaces. The original sound of the instrument transfers the audience to the 18th and 19th century and brings the atmosphere of Austro-Hungarian towns when barrel-organs created a metropolitan character as well as the cafes and promenades concerts in Bratislava, Vienna or Budapest.
