TOP PROGRAMME for young adults and adults

A space-comedy about Slovakia’s entry into the European Union, utopia or reality? Most importantly, it’s tongue-in-cheek!

We fly through time. 1968, 1988 and 2018! The collective house on the bank of Dunaj, a missile military base and the deck of ISS Europe. Two utopias with an in-between reality for three men and one woman are heading your way. The parts of the play, Stars, Gagarin, and Space take place in the ideal world in the style of the EXPO 1958 at a heavily-guarded military base in 1988, and on the spaceship, but also in the control centre on Earth in 2018. The heroine of the first story is born directly at the exhibition area of the EXPO 1958 and discovers antimatter, which consumes everything in Slovakia and can make anyone a fortune. In the second part of the play, we bear witness to a debate between a soldier and his superior on the day of the 20th anniversary of J. A. Gagarin’s death. The final part happens in the cockpit of the ISS Europe spaceship, in the Štefánik module, where the oxygen level is dropping quickly. Will the flight control centre, where the incompetent minister of defence and his unfaithful wife Táňa are present, manage to help our hero? And what day is it today, anyway?

The author of this amazing comedy is the renowned Slovak playwright, Viliam Klimáček, the leader of the GuNaGu Theatre. With his trademark style mixing tragedy and comedy, he analyzes the meaning of the “defloration of space”, with our little Slovakia in it. A true experience!

The Slovak section of the Theatre in Dlouhá has already premiered 7 plays in Slovak. The most adapted playwright is Viliam Klimáček. The Theatre in Dlouhá already introduced his plays such as the Land with the television, Communism or Addicts. The text of the play The day Gagarin died was created in 2014 as part of the “EÚ through the eyes of drama/ODES OR MOCKERIES” by the Theatre institute.
