ANTON ANDERLE (2009)

Folk puppeteer. He came from a famous puppeteer family Anderle of Radvaň. He studied mechanical engineering at secondary technical school in Zvolen during 1959 – 1963. In family theatre he acted until 1967, before he began to work as a specialist engineer. In 1972 he returned to puppetry, this time independently as an amateur puppeteer. In 1999 he founded the Traditional puppet theatre of Anton Anderle, in which he played the traditional repertoire of vagrant puppeteers. He gained admiration also beyond the borders of Slovakia and ranked among the top European folk puppetry. He also dealt with the production of puppets and restoration of decorations, curtains and props from the Slovak and Czech puppeteers. He managed to collect about a thousand of puppets, documenting the development of puppet theatre in Slovakia. His most familiar play in recent years was Najmenší cirkus na svete (The smallest circus in the world) which he also successfully performed abroad. His puppet of Gašparko (Punch) was the most exceptional and characteristic one. Anton Anderle organized more than 120 important puppet events and festivals in more than 20 European countries and Canada. He was awarded Order of Broken Barriers (1993), Golden Marionette (1996), in 2001 he received the award for best traditional puppet theatre, and The Price For Animation and Maintaining Traditions in 2002. Several times he performed at the festival KREMNICA GAGS.
