FRANTIŠEK DIBARBORA (2008)

Slovak actor and teacher of Italian origin (grandfather Giacomo Di Barbora). At the instigation of his father he graduated from high school along with Music and Drama Academy in Bratislava under Janko Borodáč (1938). Upon graduation, he joined the drama ensemble of SND. As a youth, he performed sports, played football for Slovan Bratislava and represented Slovakia also as a goal-keeper in ice hockey. With the exception of years 1940 – 1942, when he was a member of the National Theatre Opera, and years 1946 – 1952 when he played in Nová Scéna theatre, he was a member of the drama ensemble of SND. He won recognition in the Czechoslovak Radio. In 1938, he appeared in film Neporažená armada (Undefeated army). M. Frič casted him also in the movie Varuj! (Beware!) His comic is shown in films Priehrada (Dam), V piatok trinásteho (On Friday, the thirteenth), Štvorylka (Quadrille), Jožko Púčik a jeho kariéra (Joe Bud and his career), Zemianska česť (Yeoman’s honour), Dovolená s Andělem (Holidays with Angel), or Skalní v ofsajde (Fans in offside). He showed his talent also in the role of German SS officer Hermann Thiele in the film Vlčie diery (Wolf holes), which earned him the National Film Award (1949). Similar character he played in the film Kým kohút nezaspieva (While the cock will sing) (1969). He also featured on television (Sám vojak v poli (Soldier, alone in the field), Pštrosí večierok (Ostrich party), Americká tragédia (American tragedy), memorable and famous is his character of parson Evans in the performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor. He played in even more important productions like Bratia Karamazovci (Karamazov brothers), Revízor (Examiner), or Inkognito (Incognito). He created over 200 theatrical characters, he was the favourite entertainer artist and he liked to entertain colleagues and audience. He also worked as a teacher at the University of Performing Arts.
