MINORITY & VISEGRAD at Kremnicke Gagy 2024

Experience the power of cross-border collaboration and laughter at the Theatre Festival of Humor and Satire – Kremnica Gags 2024, now in its 44th annual edition. This year, cultural operators from Slovakia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, and Serbia unite to curate a lineup that explores the theme of minorities and their relations with the majority. Through performances, cartoons, and panel discussions, the festival aims to foster understanding and cooperation among Visegrad countries.

The festival showcases a diverse range of performances representing Visegrad culture and identity, with a special focus on minorities such as Roma, Hungarian, Jewish, and Ukrainian communities. A unique collaboration, ‚Visegrad Varieté,‘ brings together artists from all participating countries in a spectacular showcase of contemporary circus, puppetry, physical theatre, and more.

In addition to performances, the festival features a cartoon exhibition highlighting socio-political commentary from cartoonists across the Visegrad region and Ukraine. Witness the creativity unfold at the live ‚Improcartoon‘ event, where cartoonists improvise a joint Megacartoon on the theme of minorities and Visegrad.

Join us for panel discussions led by experts exploring acceptance of minorities across Visegrad countries and the lost Jewish culture in Kremnica. These discussions delve into the complexities of minority-majority relationships, offering insight and reflection for all.

And don’t miss the excitement of the Golden Gander Awards ceremony, where we honor the best performances of the year. Selected by a committee of cultural professionals from all participating countries, these awards celebrate excellence in humor and satire, showcasing the creativity and talent of Visegrad artists. Join us as we applaud creativity, innovation, and the power of laughter to unite diverse cultures.
